This week in math the students have been learning about geometry. We discussed polygons vs. non-polygons, 3D shapes, and symmetry. On Thursday the students will take their Unit 7 assessment.
In word work the students have been learning and practicing long and short vowel sounds. This week we focused on o and u. Students will also have time to practice first grade 'snap words'. Students were not given individual weekly words on account of the short week.
This week we are wrapping up our unit on opinion writing. On Wednesday the students will all write for 45 minutes to demonstrate their ability as writers!
During science time we are learning about plants. On Monday we learned about what plants need to survive. On Tuesday we learned about the parts of a plant. On Wednesday we will plant seeds!
During reader's workshop we are continuing to focus on identifying the author's message. I am continuing to meet with students in guided reading groups and individually for reading conferences.
